Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Apogee School for the Gifted emphasizes a whole-child approach tailored specifically to gifted learners, aiming to meet each student where they are and help them reach their highest potential. Their model combines high academic expectations and accountability with small classes for individualized attention, plus intentional support for gifted-specific social-emotional needs (including through an in-house neuroscience program).

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Apogee’s admissions start with requesting a personalized tour (a meeting with the Head of School plus classroom visits), and they prefer the child attend the tour. (apogeeschool.org) Next, families complete an online application (they send a link to create a portal account via email) and the school requires two prior teachers to submit online reference forms (they provide a Google Forms link for this). (apogeeschool.org) After the application, families can request a shadow day by emailing the school; Apogee schedules shadow days only if they have openings and the child appears to meet admissions criteria, and the shadow experience lasts at least 3 consecutive days before a decision is made. (apogeeschool.org) Requirements focus on evidence of giftedness (e.g., documented IQ around 125+, gifted-program participation, family history, NWEA ≥97th percentile, working ahead, and other evidence) and a good fit with the school’s culture; after the shadow, outcomes range from immediate admission (if space is available) to asking for more information, encouraging re-application next year, or declining. (apogeeschool.org) For enrollment and financial aid, families complete an enrollment form, upload income documentation (AGI and household size), and should note voucher deadlines of September 1 (full-year) and January 15 (second-semester/50%); the site does not describe a formal waitlist process or any admissions “priority categories,” other than indicating decisions depend on available openings and fit.
