Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

IDEAL School of Manhattan - Upper describes an inclusive, student-centered approach where students learn together across diverse abilities and backgrounds, with teachers using differentiated, personalized instruction rather than a one-size-fits-all model. In its upper grades, the school emphasizes small classes, collaborative/co-teaching structures, discussion- and experience-based learning, and a curriculum designed to build critical thinking, confidence, leadership, empathy, and social-justice awareness. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

IDEAL’s website shows one schoolwide admissions process, and for upper school applicants (grades 6–12) families start by attending an open house or scheduling a parent tour, then submit the application through Ravenna. (theidealschool.org) The posted application requirements include the online forms, a records release form, teacher recommendation forms sent to current teachers, and a writing sample if applicable; if a student has an IEP, IESP, or receives services, Ravenna prompts the family to complete an additional Part 2. (theidealschool.org) After a completed application is received, IDEAL says it schedules a parent interview and a student visit in the applicant’s current-grade classroom, then the admissions committee reviews the file and, if accepted, the family completes enrollment forms and a deposit. (theidealschool.org) For currently posted upper-school dates, the 2025–26 admissions page lists virtual open houses for grades 6–12 on March 16, 2026; April 24, 2026; May 15, 2026; and June 5, 2026, and the school also says parent-only tours are available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM and that it holds an in-person open house each fall. (theidealschool.org) I did not find a published application deadline, formal waitlist policy, or stated priority categories (for example sibling or legacy preference) on the admissions pages reviewed, so those items appear not to be publicly specified there. After-School Care

Updated 6mo ago

The school website shows upper-school after-school programming, but not a clearly defined general after-school care program. The clearest official offering is APEX Athletics, which says it is designed for older students (Grades 5-12) and provides a structured environment where students can focus on academics and athletics. The website does not list after-care hours or pricing.
