Teaching Approach

Updated 5mo ago

Phillips Academy describes its academic philosophy as a liberal education that values knowledge for its own sake and emphasizes breadth across connected fields rather than early specialization. Its teaching approach is intentionally varied and interactive—ranging from discussion- and inquiry-based classes to immersive and experiential learning—so students learn to think critically, question ideas, and apply their learning responsibly in the world. Admissions

Updated 5mo ago

Phillips Academy says applicants begin by submitting the Candidate Profile through Gateway to Prep Schools; about 24 hours later they receive Andover portal credentials, where they can add either an on-campus interview, a virtual interview, or an interview recording. (andover.edu) Applicants must submit one approved standardized test (SSAT Upper Level, ISEE Upper Level, PSAT, SAT, or ACT) plus application materials including a graded writing sample, essay, short video response, parent/guardian statement, current-year and prior grades/transcript, principal/counselor recommendation, current English and math teacher recommendations, and a personal recommendation; international applicants from non-English-medium schools are also asked for TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English results. (andover.edu) On the current admissions pages, the main application and financial aid deadlines are February 1, interviews run through January, decision release is listed as March 10, and a second-round process for Fall 2026 remains open until June 15, 2026, with those later applicants considered for waitlist spaces because the school says it is fully enrolled. (andover.edu) Andover says its waitlist is for a select group of applicants, is not ranked, requires a reply form to remain active, may move as early as April or as late as August, and usually does not need extra materials unless the school asks for a final transcript. (andover.edu) I did not find any webpage on Andover's main admissions site listing explicit applicant-priority categories such as sibling or legacy preference; instead, the site emphasizes need-blind admission, allows applicants to choose day or boarding status without geographic restriction, and states a nondiscrimination policy, while also saying waitlisted students who confirm their spot have equal opportunity within their applied grade. After-School Care

Updated 5mo ago

Approximately two hours every weekday afternoon

No separate after-school care program was clearly listed on Phillips Academy's website. The closest official description found says: "Each student is required to participate in an athletic activity. For most students, this is a commitment at the varsity, junior varsity, or life sport level. Afternoons focus on volunteer work through the Community Engagement Program, Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD) office or Brace Center for Gender Studies, independent musical pursuits or physical fitness/endurance activities (e.g., Outdoor Pursuits, martial arts, dance)."
