Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Calvert School describes its teaching philosophy as a traditional, age-specific approach that meets children at each stage of development while building mastery of basic skills, academic curiosity, and independent learning. The school emphasizes both strong academic foundations and whole-child growth, pairing rigorous core instruction with character development, creativity, critical thinking, and opportunities for students to grow into leaders and lifelong learners.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Calvert School’s 2026-2027 application is open, and the school says it accepts students through Seventh Grade; families typically begin by submitting an inquiry, after which the admissions team contacts them about testing, an in-person tour, and access to the online application portal. (calvertschoolmd.org) For Fifth Age/Sixth Age and Seventh Age/Eighth Age applicants, Calvert requires an admission evaluation plus an in-person tour, and the online application is due one week before the child’s testing appointment; current-school transcript/recommendation materials are due by January 9, 2026. (calvertschoolmd.org) For Ninth Age/Tenth Age and for students entering Fifth through Seventh Grade, Calvert requires the ISEE, with scores due by January 9, 2026; applications for those entry points are due by December 17, 2025, and Fifth- through Seventh-Grade applicants also need a writing sample plus three referrals (English, Math, and one teacher or coach). (calvertschoolmd.org) Key published dates include financial-aid applications through Clarity due by January 19, 2026, and Admission Decision Notification Day on February 19, 2026; Calvert also says its age-placement birthdate cycle runs June 1 to May 31, and Fifth Age applicants must turn five in the summer before or during that school year. (calvertschoolmd.org) I did not find any publicly posted waitlist procedure or published admissions priority categories (such as sibling, alumni, or employee preference) on Calvert’s admissions pages, so those items appear not to be specified on the website.
