Smoky Row Elementary is a Carmel Clay Schools (CCS) public school, and student assignment is primarily determined by the district’s geographic attendance boundaries (families can confirm their assigned school using the boundary map and then enroll). To apply, families complete the CCS online registration packet (PowerSchool) and follow the posted registration instructions; CCS also offers optional pre-scheduled group school tours. Key dates are posted by CCS for incoming kindergarten (for example, 2026–2027 kindergarten enrollment begins January 12, 2026), and kindergarten screening is scheduled in advance at the school of enrollment after registration. Required items for enrollment include an official birth certificate/passport, immunization records, parent/guardian photo ID, proof of residency (specified housing document(s) plus a gas/electric bill), and guardianship/custody documentation if applicable; kindergarten eligibility requires the child to be age 5 on or before August 1 of the enrolling year (with an early entrance waiver option for certain students who turn 5 by October 1). CCS does not describe a general admissions waitlist for boundary-based enrollment, but in-district transfer/residency exception requests are not guaranteed and are decided based on eligibility and space; priority/eligibility categories listed for in-district transfers include midyear relocation within the district, continuity for students entering 5th or 8th grade after attending for multiple years, siblings of students receiving special services at a designated school, children of CCS employees, and certain middle-school boundary exceptions.
