Friendship Technology Preparatory High describes its approach as a college-preparatory program that combines rigorous academics with supportive, high-performing classrooms aimed at helping students get into—and thrive in—college. It emphasizes secondary STEM learning through hands-on science, robotics and engineering coursework, and regular technology use in instruction (e.g., devices and classroom tech). The school also highlights AP/Honors and career-academy pathways and a “green school” focus intended to build skills for the 21st-century global economy and environmentally conscious decision-making.

Friendship PCS – Technology Preparatory High School (Tech Prep) accepts new and transferring students through the My School DC common lottery: families create an account on My School DC, submit an application, and rank Tech Prep among their choices. Friendship’s posted 2026 timeline lists: Lottery Application Opens (Dec 15), Lottery Application Deadline for grades 9–12 (Feb 2), Post-Lottery application period begins for grades 9–12 (Feb 3), Lottery Results released (Mar 27), and Registration Deadline (May 1); Friendship also notes enrollment is completed by attending school in August. Eligibility/requirements noted by Friendship include that the student’s parent/primary caregiver must live in Washington, DC, and families must submit DC proof of residency and other required supporting documentation during registration (returning/feeder students register via InfoSnap rather than reapplying). If a student is not matched (or applies during post-lottery), they are placed on the My School DC waitlist for Tech Prep and may receive an offer if a seat opens; enrolling at a matched school does not remove a student from other active waitlists. The My School DC profile for Tech Prep lists these lottery priority categories: Transfer, Sibling Attending, Children of Staff, and Sibling Offered.
