Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

Bullis emphasizes relational teaching: faculty build strong bonds with students and support the whole child (social, emotional, physical, and academic) while facilitating reflective classroom learning toward mastery and confidence. Across divisions, Bullis aims to create an engaged, safe, and connected learning culture with challenging coursework that blends traditional subjects and modern skill areas (e.g., design thinking, digital literacy, entrepreneurship), alongside personalized pathways and joyful academic pursuits that promote individual and collective growth.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Bullis School’s application starts by submitting an inquiry to create an Admission Portal account, then completing the online application and paying the application fee (for School Year 2026–27, the application/supporting-documents deadline is January 9, 2026; after that, applications are reviewed on a space-available basis and tours/interviews are not guaranteed). (bullis.org) Requirements vary by entry grade but generally include scheduled visits/interviews plus required recommendations and school records (e.g., K–2: virtual parent interview, campus tour, recommendations, school records, and a required in-person student visit; Grades 3–5: virtual parent interview, Lower School tour, a Shadow Day visit with an academic assessment, plus recommendations and school records; Grades 6–12: tour/interview, required teacher recommendations, school records, and a graded writing sample/essay, plus shadow visits for some grades). (bullis.org) Bullis notes that testing is generally not required “this year,” though families may optionally submit certain testing (e.g., SSAT/ISEE/other scores for older applicants, and optional psychoeducational testing results for Lower School applicants). (bullis.org) Key dates shown for the 2026–27 cycle include: Admission application begins September 1, 2025; application/supporting documents due January 9, 2026; admission decisions announced February 27, 2026; and accepted-family events in early March 2026 (financial-aid deadlines are also listed around this period). (bullis.org) For outcomes, Bullis states that applicants with completed files by the application deadline are notified by early March and incomplete files are considered on a space-available basis; however, the admissions pages reviewed do not publicly describe a formal waitlist process for new applicants or any stated priority categories (such as sibling/legacy preferences).
