Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

Corlears describes its teaching philosophy as an early-childhood, play-based progressive approach that empowers children to become agents of their own learning during their formative years. Its curriculum is interdisciplinary and tailored to each child, blending literacy, math, science, artistic expression, and social studies with a strong emphasis on social-emotional development, belonging, and social justice. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

For the 2026–27 year, Corlears says applications are still open and being accepted on a rolling basis; toddlers (12–24 months) apply through the school’s own registration form plus a $50 fee, while Nursery (2s/3s) and PreK (4s) families apply through Ravenna with a $50 fee and then schedule a 30-minute in-person family playdate. (corlearsschool.org) Children applying to Nursery or PreK from another program should submit an ISAAGNY teacher recommendation through Ravenna, while children not currently enrolled in a school program can skip that step; the admissions FAQ also lists age cutoffs of at least 12 months by September 1 for Toddlers, turning 2 or 3 by October 1 for Nursery, and turning 4 by October 1 for PreK. (corlearsschool.org) The site’s key dates are September 2, 2025 for application launch, October 1, 2025 for TEAM launch, January 8, 2026 for both the main application deadline (for Seedlings and up) and the TEAM deadline, February 26, 2026 for Nursery/PreK decisions, and March 5, 2026 at 12:00 noon for replies; it also says TEAM applications submitted after January 8 are processed on a rolling basis. (corlearsschool.org) Corlears says admissions decisions are based on the applicant’s visit, academic records, and grade-level balance; Nursery and PreK decisions follow ISAAGNY timing, toddler decisions are rolling throughout the year, and I did not find a published waitlist policy on the admissions pages reviewed. (corlearsschool.org) I also did not find formal sibling/legacy priority categories on the admissions pages; the clearest stated priorities were simplified Nursery reenrollment for toddlers recommended to continue and a broader institutional priority on socioeconomic diversity through the TEAM tuition model.
