Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

DeMatha describes a college-preparatory education where faith and knowledge complement each other, grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition (reason informing faith) and the Trinitarian commitment to faith, redemption, and service. Students’ intellectual growth is pursued within a moral framework through a broad-based, rigorous curriculum that incorporates appropriate pedagogy and technological innovation, supported by spiritual formation and co-curricular opportunities aimed at forming “Faith-Filled Gentlemen and Scholars.” (dematha.org)

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

DeMatha’s application starts in its online Admission Portal (Veracross) with a $50 fee; the school’s site separates instructions by applicant type (8th grade Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW), 8th grade public/private/home school, transfer, and international), and notes the 2026–2027 portal opens in mid-August (timeline lists August 19, 2025). (dematha.org) Applicants for 9th grade must register for and take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and select DeMatha so scores are sent; ADW Catholic-school applicants who list DeMatha have their Catholic High School Student Information Form (grades/recommendations) sent automatically by their school. (dematha.org) For non-ADW-Catholic applicants (public/private/home school and international), required materials include requesting academic records/transcripts via the portal and submitting three recommendations from school personnel; these materials are due by January 14, 2026 (and Catholic-school students’ middle-school transcripts are due December 12, 2025). (dematha.org) Key dates shown for the 2026–2027 cycle include: HSPT at DeMatha on December 6, 2025; application deadline December 12, 2025; decision notification February 20, 2026 (after 3pm) via the portal; and enrollment forms/fees due March 13, 2026. (dematha.org) The site indicates that students applying after December 12, 2025 may be placed on a waitlist for consideration, and for financial aid specifically, FACTS is due December 12, 2025 for priority consideration (with ADW/TADS due December 15, 2025) and later financial-aid applicants are waitlisted for aid consideration. (dematha.org) Transfer applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis but space is limited (generally no 12th-grade transfers unless a serious family change or relocation), and international applicants not living in the U.S. must obtain an F visa and complete an I-20 request process.
