Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Lodestar describes a student-centered, “love and rigor” approach in which every student is seen as having unending potential and is supported to become a lifelong changemaker rooted in identity, knowledge, and skills. Its teaching philosophy emphasizes teachers as facilitators who empower students to lead their own learning through challenging, meaningful work, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and critical reflection, drawing on the EL Education model. In practice, this includes a strong focus on science-based literacy in the early grades, character development, restorative community structures, and preparation for college, career, and contributing to a more just and equitable world.
