Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

The New Century School describes its teaching approach as progressive, inquiry-based, and hands-on, designed to build critical thinking, independence, and a lifelong love of learning by having students explore questions and solve problems rather than simply memorize facts. It emphasizes small mixed-age classrooms, individualized guidance, Montessori-inspired practices, and strong multilingual learning in English, Spanish, and Mandarin, alongside attention to character development and the whole child. Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

TNCS says families can begin by scheduling a visit or contacting admissions, then complete an online Blackbaud application at their own pace; the school also says the application takes less than an hour and has no fee. (thenewcenturyschool.com) For kindergarten through 8th grade, admission is based on the application, a student shadow, a parent/guardian interview, and prior school transcripts plus teacher recommendations, and TNCS says all steps must be completed before a decision is made. (thenewcenturyschool.com) For preschool ages 2-4, families first connect with admissions, then apply, complete a 30-minute student visit, and submit prior childcare recommendations/progress reports if applicable; preschool priority enrollment goes first to returning students, then siblings of current students and incoming elementary students, with possible preference for full-day applicants and consideration of time in the applicant pool. (thenewcenturyschool.com) The school lists rolling admissions year-round, including late and midyear applications, rather than a single general deadline; for kindergarten specifically, current TNCS primary students are encouraged to submit an early-consideration application by mid-December and new students are encouraged to apply by January 31. (thenewcenturyschool.com) I did not find an explicit general admissions waitlist policy on the admissions pages, but TNCS does say preschool students receive priority consideration for kindergarten even though enrollment is not guaranteed and current students must still apply.
