Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

Digital Pioneers Academy emphasizes a rigorous, college-preparatory program with a culture of high expectations where students do the “heavy lifting” by solving problems and communicating ideas. Computer science and computational thinking are central—taught daily and used to support learning across all subjects. The school also emphasizes “nurturing the genius in every child” by providing individualized supports and evidence-based interventions so all students can thrive.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Digital Pioneers Academy PCS – Capitol Hill (grades 9–12) participates in the District’s My School DC common application/lottery; families apply by creating a My School DC account and ranking the school on their application (DPA encourages ranking it among your top choices). (digitalpioneersacademy.org) For school year 2026–27, the lottery application opened December 15, 2025, and the deadline for grades 9–12 was February 2, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET (this date is already past as of February 10, 2026); lottery results and initial waitlist positions are released March 27, 2026. (enrolldcps.dc.gov) To enroll, students must meet My School DC age cutoffs and DC residency requirements (including providing valid documentation of DC residence to attend tuition-free), and families who receive a lottery match must complete enrollment by May 1, 2026. (digitalpioneersacademy.org) If a student is not matched (or applies after the deadline), they can be placed on the school’s waitlist; waitlists are used to fill seats as they become available, offers are not guaranteed, and post-lottery applicants are added below lottery applicants (generally ordered by preference group first, then lottery number, with post-lottery ordered by submission date within the appropriate group). (myschooldc.org) The school’s published lottery priority categories are (1) Sibling Attending, (2) Sibling Offered, and (3) Children of Staff. (myschooldc.org)
