Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

Hewitt’s teaching philosophy is built around four academic pillars—presence, empathy, research, and purpose—which guide how teachers teach and how students learn from kindergarten through graduation. The school emphasizes mindful, reflective classroom interactions; developing students’ ability to understand multiple perspectives; and research-informed, growth-mindset pedagogy in cooperative and collaborative learning environments. It also aims to help each student develop a personal sense of purpose that is meaningful to her and beneficial to the broader community.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Hewitt’s admissions process starts with creating and submitting an online application through its admissions portal for the 2026–2027 school year, with families encouraged to contact the admissions team with questions. (hewittschool.org) After applying, families schedule required appointments (a parent/guardian conversation, tours, and student visit/interview or assessment depending on grade) and submit school reports/records and other required materials via the portal. (hewittschool.org) Requirements vary by grade: Kindergarten applicants must turn five on or before October 1, 2026 and complete an in-person group assessment; grades 1–4 complete a personalized assessment and Hewitt notes it does not require standardized tests; grades 5–12 submit ISAAGNY materials and are asked to provide ISEE or SSAT results (with school codes listed on the site). (hewittschool.org) For the 2026–2027 cycle, key dates shown include the application and financial-aid deadline of December 1, 2025; all application materials due January 8, 2026; notifications on February 5, 2026 (K), February 11, 2026 (grades 1–8), and February 20, 2026 (grades 9–12), followed by reply deadlines of February 12, February 27, and March 12, 2026, respectively. (hewittschool.org) The public admissions pages reviewed do not state a specific waitlist process or any explicit priority categories (such as sibling/alumnae/employee preference), so families would need to confirm those details directly with the admissions office.
