Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

Ben Franklin Academy describes its approach as a challenging, individualized college-preparatory education delivered within a caring learning community. Its teaching philosophy centers on mastery learning: students work at their own pace in one-on-one or small-group settings and are expected to reach a high level of proficiency before moving on.

Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

Ben Franklin Academy uses rolling, year-round admission: families begin by contacting the school by phone, email, or the admissions inquiry form to set up a phone interview with Head of School Dr. Martha Burdette. (benfranklinacademy.org) Applicants then arrange a campus tour and conversation with the Head of School; the school says it offers individual tours year-round and open houses in the fall. (benfranklinacademy.org) During the tour, families receive an admissions packet that includes the application, and once the full packet is submitted, the Admissions Committee considers the application; international students who need an I-20 are directed to discuss procedures with the Registrar. (benfranklinacademy.org) Publicly posted key timing is limited, but the site does state that admissions are rolling and that scholarship funds for the next school year are usually confirmed by April 1, so families seeking aid should apply early after registration. (benfranklinacademy.org) I did not find a published admissions waitlist policy or admissions priority categories on the public admissions pages; the only priorities mentioned on the site are for financial aid, where current aided families and families in exceptional circumstances are prioritized. After-School Care

Updated 6mo ago

I could not find a dedicated after-school care program on the website. The site says BFA is a grades 9-12 high school and lists "Two Longer Day Options - 8:00-1:30 or 10:00-3:30" plus "After-school clubs and activities offered include Drama, Popular Music Ensemble, Cross Country, Golf, Latin Dance, and Ultimate Disc."
