Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Palo Alto High describes its approach as student-centered and whole-child oriented: it aims to empower all students by addressing their academic, social, and emotional needs so they can develop their passions, values, and interests. The school also emphasizes collaboration, equitable and innovative learning opportunities, and growth in thoughtful expression, social responsibility, academic excellence, and personal development. Admissions

Updated 5mo ago

For the 2026-27 school year, Palo Alto High does not appear to have a separate school-level admissions application on Paly's website; instead, new students enroll through Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) Registration Services by completing the online registration form, receiving a confirmation code, gathering documents, and attending an in-person appointment at the district office. (paly.net) Residents may enroll only if the student is currently and continuously living with a parent/guardian inside PAUSD boundaries, and the required materials include residency proof, parent photo ID, the student's birth document, official immunization records, a Santa Clara County TB risk assessment, and for many high-school transfers an official transcript; records-request and IEP/504 documents may also be required. (pausd.org) The key posted dates are December 1, 2025 for online registration opening and December 8, 2025 for in-person appointments, and PAUSD says grades 6-12 families who register during the priority window are typically notified of school assignment in late March or early April. (pausd.org) Priority is based mainly on residence and timing, not academics: students are assigned to their neighborhood school by home address, all registrations completed during the priority-registration window receive equal placement priority, and later registrations are placed based on when the file becomes complete. (pausd.org) If the neighborhood school has no space, PAUSD says the student is overflowed to another school in the same cluster, placed on the neighborhood school's waitlist, and moved back when space opens; for interdistrict transfers, PAUSD says it generally expects to approve only requests in the Project Search, PAUSD employee, Junior/Senior privilege, or documented hardship categories. After-School Care

Updated 5mo ago

Not Available

No official after-school care program was found for Palo Alto High. PAUSD states its Expanded Learning Opportunities Program serves TK-5 and grade 6 and is offered at elementary and middle schools, not high schools. On the Paly site, the closest after-school offering found was the Tower Learning Center, which is described as academic mentoring/tutoring support rather than childcare.
