TAG’s own website indicates that NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) oversees admissions for Kindergarten–3rd grade and directs families to follow the NYCPS Gifted & Talented (G&T) process; it also states that applying for 6th grade is done through the NYCPS middle school application, with non-offered applicants placed on a waitlist if seats open. (tagscholars.com) For Kindergarten entry, families apply in MySchools by submitting the NYCPS kindergarten application and listing TAG as a G&T choice; TAG is one of NYC’s five “citywide” G&T schools, meaning Kindergarten applicants from any borough may apply and there is no preference based on district of residence. (schools.nyc.gov) Key dates for Fall 2026 include: Kindergarten application Dec 9, 2025–Jan 23, 2026 (offers Mar 31, 2026); Grades 1–4 G&T application Apr 21–May 8, 2026 (offers Jun 11, 2026); and Middle School (6th grade) application Oct 15–Dec 12, 2025 (offers Apr 15, 2026). (schools.nyc.gov) Requirements/selection: for Kindergarten G&T, eligibility is determined after applying (via current pre-K teacher evaluation for many applicants, or an NYCPS-arranged interview/nomination process for children not in eligible public/charter pre-K settings), and for Grades 1–4, students must be deemed eligible (including via report-card review processes for some applicants) before offers are made. (schools.nyc.gov) Waitlists and priorities: G&T offers are made based on application choices, seat availability, and admissions priorities (all G&T programs prioritize siblings, and some also use district or diversity priorities, though TAG’s citywide status means no district-of-residence preference), and after offers families can add/join waitlists in MySchools to view their priority group and waitlist position; for middle school, students are automatically waitlisted for any higher-ranked programs than the one they were offered, and additional waitlists can be added while open.
