Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

Saint David’s describes its teaching philosophy as a research-driven, boy-centered approach that emphasizes understanding how boys learn best and teaching through movement, structure, challenge, trust, and strong relationships. The school says its faculty use inquiry-based, evidence-backed instruction to help boys think independently, engage actively, and grow not only academically but also in character, creativity, athleticism, and spirituality. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

Saint David’s says the admissions process begins in the fall before enrollment: families apply through Ravenna (or the school’s online application), submit a $75 application fee, and use Ravenna to schedule required admissions activities; parents book an in-person tour and conversation with admissions, Pre-K/Kindergarten candidates attend play groups, and Grades 1–7 candidates visit later in the season. (saintdavids.org) For the next published cycle, applications for 2027-2028 are expected in early August and should be submitted by December 1, while official transcripts from the current school are due January 8; the school’s posted 2026-2027 decision calendar listed Kindergarten decisions on February 5 with replies due February 12, Grades 1-8 decisions on February 11 with replies due February 27, and Pre-K decisions on February 26 with replies due March 5. (saintdavids.org) Requirements include age cutoffs for entry years (boys must turn 4 by September 1 for Pre-K and 5 by September 1 for Kindergarten), plus ERB testing only for Grades 2-7: ISEE Primary for Grades 2-4, ISEE Lower Level for Grades 5-6, and ISEE Upper Level for Grade 7; Saint David’s does not require or accept ERB results for Pre-K, Kindergarten, or Grade 1. (saintdavids.org) The only explicit priority categories I found are siblings of currently enrolled students and sons of alumni, who may apply under an Early Decision/Early Notification process for Pre-K and Kindergarten; the school says those applicants can be accepted, denied, or deferred to the regular decision pool, and its posted 2026 early-notification dates were December 5 for decisions and December 12 for replies. (saintdavids.org) On the admissions process and FAQ pages I reviewed, Saint David’s does not publish a formal waitlist policy; it says qualified applicants are considered at all grade levels when places are available. After School programming is offered each day until 3:30 p.m. for Alpha, Kindergarten, and Omega, and 5:00 p.m. for Grades One through Eight. For Upper School boys in Grades Four through Eight, the library offers a quiet space through 5:30 p.m. Extended Care can also be arranged until 6:30 p.m.

Whether learning to play chess or football, experimenting with a new recipe or robotics, performing on stage or crafting stories for the school paper, boys do so in a setting that’s joyful, relaxed, and thoughtfully guided.
