Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

French American School of Denver combines the academic traditions of France and the United States to create a stimulating bilingual learning environment that emphasizes student learning and well-being. It uses a two-way immersion (dual-language) model—teaching academic content in two languages (one language at a time) and encouraging peer-to-peer language sharing—while aligning instruction to French educational standards and Colorado State Standards.

Admissions

French American School of Denver (FASD) enrolls through Denver Public Schools (DPS) SchoolChoice: families submit a SchoolChoice application (one per student) and are advised to rank FASD as their #1 choice. (fasdenver.org) For the 2026–27 school year, DPS SchoolChoice Round 1 opened December 2, 2025 (10:00 a.m.) and closed January 20, 2026 (4:00 p.m.). (fasdenver.org) If the school is oversubscribed, DPS runs a lottery and seats/waitlist order are determined by DPS’s algorithm using the school’s priority categories plus a random lottery number within each priority group. (fasdenver.org) FASD’s stated admission priorities are: siblings of current FASD students, children of FASD employees, and children of “Founding Families” (with limits noted in the policy). (fasdenver.org) DPS notifies families of placement decisions in late March; families who receive an offer then complete registration with FASD in March/April and generally have until the start of Round 2 (early April) to accept. (fasdenver.org) Waitlists are dynamic, remain active into late September, and do not carry over year to year (families must reapply in a future cycle if not offered a seat). (fasdenver.org) Additionally, new students entering grades 3–5 must demonstrate French proficiency (via a French proficiency assessment) to be accepted; FASD provides an assessment calendar/sign-up and notes results are typically communicated shortly after testing.
