Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

St. Thomas’ Preschool describes its teaching philosophy as developmentally appropriate, child-centered, and strongly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach. It emphasizes exploration, creativity, collaboration, and self-initiated play in a safe, accepting, and nature-centered environment where teachers observe closely, honor each child’s individuality, and guide learning through rich materials and age-appropriate experiences.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Families are encouraged to start by scheduling a school tour (9:30 a.m., about 45 minutes) by phone or email; new applicants then complete the school application and return it to St. Thomas’ Preschool with a non-refundable $50 application fee, after which approved families receive registration forms, deposit instructions, and a placement letter. (stthomaspreschool.info) For the 2026/2027 year, registration opens November 1, 2025 for currently enrolled St. Thomas’ Preschool and Kindergarten families, and open enrollment for prospective families begins December 1, 2025; tuition is then paid either in installments due in July, November, and March or monthly from July through April. (stthomaspreschool.info) Basic admissions requirements shown on the site include meeting the age cutoff for the selected class by September 1 (for example, age 2 for Twos, 3 for Threes, 4 for Pre-K, and 5 for Kindergarten); to accept a seat, families must set up a Brightwheel account and pay the required deposit, and deposits/tuition are non-refundable. (stthomaspreschool.info) If no seat is available, the child is automatically placed on the waitlist for that school year and the family is contacted if an opening occurs. (stthomaspreschool.info) Admissions are described as first-come, first-served, but the school says priority is given, to the extent possible, to current children/currently enrolled families, children whose families are members of St. Thomas’ Church, and families with prior affiliation with the school.
