Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

Brearley frames its teaching as rigorous, liberal-arts–grounded learning that challenges girls of “adventurous intellect” to think critically and creatively, while fostering a deep love of learning and excellence. (brearley.org) Guided by dedicated faculty, students are expected to grapple with complex ideas in an inclusive community, uplifting one another as they develop a strong sense of self and learn to act with courage, integrity, and empathy. Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Brearley’s admissions application for the 2026–2027 school year is submitted via Ravenna Hub (Apply Now), and for Lower School they note that families may be directed to an Application of Interest (no application fee) when interview capacity/openings are limited. (brearley.org) For Lower School (primarily Kindergarten entry), families follow the posted timeline and complete required steps including the application, parent/guardian tour + interview, an applicant (child) visit, and a permission-to-release form so the current school can send a confidential school report through Ravenna. (brearley.org) For Middle and Upper School, families submit Application Part I (fee listed as $85, with a fee-waiver code for financial assistance applicants), schedule a required in-person interview (a tour is optional), and complete required Brearley math and English assessments; Application Part II and the full admission file are due by the posted deadlines, and Brearley states it will not consider extra materials beyond required items. (brearley.org) Key dates shown for this cycle include: Kindergarten general application due November 18, 2025 (file complete January 8, 2026; decisions February 5, 2026; enrollment due February 12, 2026 at 12:00 pm ET) and Middle/Upper deadlines of December 1, 2025 for Part I and January 8, 2026 for Part II/file complete (decision notifications February 9, 2026 for Middle and February 13, 2026 for Upper). (brearley.org) Brearley says it maintains a waitlist of qualified candidates through the end of June, and its priority/relationship categories called out are sibling candidates (sister currently enrolled) and legacy candidates (child whose mother attended Brearley), with an option for Kindergarten early notification for sibling/legacy families who applied by October 1, 2025 and completed the file by November 25, 2025 (early notification is not offered for Middle or Upper School).
