Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

Holton-Arms frames its teaching philosophy as “Learn Well, Live Well, Lead Well” (LW3): an approach designed to help students understand themselves and others, build healthy relationships across differences, and develop the skills and habits of mind to make the world more equitable, sustainable, just, and peaceful. The LW3 goals and competencies are woven into curriculum and programs, grounded in three institutional priorities—Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging; Health and Wellbeing; and Global Competence—and emphasized through school-wide goals like critical/creative thinking, communication and collaboration, curiosity and discernment, and local-to-global engagement.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Holton-Arms asks families to start by submitting an inquiry form to receive access to its Veracross admissions portal, where you begin the application and schedule required appointments. (holton-arms.edu) Applications are submitted online (including student/family information, a parent questionnaire, and a $75 fee) and then completed with division-specific requirements such as interviews (Lower School: required parent interview; Middle/Upper School: required student interview), transcripts/records, recommendations, and testing (Grades 3–6 use Holton-provided assessments; Grades 7+ can submit SSAT/ISEE/ERB/MAP or take Holton’s in-house Star test). (holton-arms.edu) For Grade 6 and above, Holton also considers a student video, and optional tours/shadow visits are offered (often recommended but space-limited). (holton-arms.edu) Key dates shown for the 2026–2027 cycle include an application deadline of Saturday, January 10, 2026 (also the listed financial aid deadline for prospective families), decisions posted to the portal Friday, February 27, 2026 after 4 p.m., welcome receptions the week of March 2, 2026, and an enrollment deadline of Friday, March 13, 2026 (note: one Upper School section displays “January 10, 2025,” which appears inconsistent with the rest of the site). (holton-arms.edu) Holton states that a complete application must be received by the posted deadline to receive a decision by the notification date, and that late applications may be reviewed but admission is not guaranteed and space may no longer be available; the public admissions pages reviewed do not describe a formal waitlist process or any explicit priority categories (e.g., siblings/alumnae/faculty).
