Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s describes its teaching philosophy as nurturing the whole child—body, mind, and spirit—within a structured but flexible classroom environment that recognizes different developmental stages and learning styles. The school emphasizes a liberal arts education, strong academic expectations, spiritual and ethical formation, and a diverse community where each student is respected as a unique individual and encouraged to contribute their gifts to others.

Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s says its typical admissions cycle runs from September through March, and families start by submitting the online application and registering through the school’s inquiry/visit/apply portals. (sthildas.org) Requirements vary by grade: Nursery Half Day, Nursery Full Day, and Junior Kindergarten require the application, a parents-only tour, a virtual parent/guardian interview, and a family visit with the child; Senior Kindergarten adds a child school visit and an ISAAGNY teacher report; and Grades 1-7 also require a child visit, an ISAAGNY teacher report, and prior grade reports for grades 2-7. (sthildas.org) The school lists age cutoffs for early-childhood entry as 2.9 by September 1, 2026 for Nursery Half Day, 3 by September 1, 2026 for Nursery Full Day, 4 by September 1, 2026 for Junior Kindergarten, and 5 by September 1, 2026 for Senior Kindergarten. (sthildas.org) For the 2026-2027 cycle, published decision dates are February 5, 2026 for Senior Kindergarten, February 11, 2026 for Grades 1-8, and February 26, 2026 for Nursery/Junior Kindergarten, with reply deadlines of February 12, February 27, and March 5, 2026 respectively; after those dates, admissions become rolling based on spot availability. (sthildas.org) The website does not spell out a separate waitlist policy, but it does identify priority-style early notification for siblings of current students, children of current faculty members, and associated clergy, with decisions in December that may be accept, deny, or defer to the regular pool.
