Teaching Approach

Updated 4w ago

Temple Israel describes a child-centered, progressive approach inspired by Reggio Emilia and grounded in Jewish values and traditions. Learning is hands-on, play- and discovery-based, with teachers co-constructing curriculum around children’s interests while nurturing curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, community, inclusion, and development at each child’s individual pace.

Admissions

Updated 4w ago

Temple Israel’s ECLC admissions for 2027–2028 are open: families must register for a required adult-only fall tour, then create a profile and apply through the admissions portal; questions go to admissions@templeisraelnyc.org. (tinyc.org) The application deadline is Friday, November 20, 2026, followed by a virtual 20–30 minute parent “get to know you” meeting with admissions staff sometime November–February. (tinyc.org) Notification letters follow ISAAGNY dates, with the published 2027–2028 notification date set for Thursday, February 25, 2027; optional events include Tot Shabbat, winter child play visits, an exmissions panel, and Open School Night, and the school says child visits are not required. (tinyc.org) The older ECLC page states children must turn two by August 31 of the year they start school, while the current admissions page lists Young 2s through 4s/5s classes and says ECLC tuition includes Temple membership. (tinyc.org) No ECLC waitlist policy was found on the admissions page; priority/early-notification eligibility is limited to siblings of current students or alumni who completed the full program, and families who joined Temple Israel before September 2025, with eligible families opting into Early Decision and receiving December notification on the ISAAGNY timeline.
