Maya Angelou PCS High School describes its approach as “The Maya Way”: a comprehensive, non-traditional model that pairs a demanding academic program with strong social-emotional supports and tiered interventions focused on the whole child. The school emphasizes an unwavering belief in every student’s potential—along with a commitment to families that it will not give up on their child—while building college/career readiness and employment skills so students are prepared for life after graduation.

For Maya Angelou PCS High School (grades 9–12), new applicants apply through the My School DC common lottery (MySchoolDC.org), and the school also encourages families to contact the enrollment point of contact to schedule an appointment and tour after applying. (seeforever.org) Key dates for SY 2026–27 include: application opens December 15, 2025; grades 9–12 application deadline February 2, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET); optional re-ranking allowed until March 13, 2026 (5 p.m.); lottery results released March 27, 2026; and the common enrollment deadline is May 1, 2026. (enrolldcps.dc.gov) If matched/accepted, families must complete enrollment and provide required documents such as proof of DC residency, parent/guardian ID, birth certificate, DC health and oral health forms, transcripts (and an 8th-grade report card for first-time 9th graders, if applicable), plus IEP documentation if applicable. (seeforever.org) If seats fill, students are placed on waitlists; waitlists are ordered by preference group (then random lottery number), post-lottery applicants are added below on-time lottery applicants, and waitlists do not carry over to the next school year. (myschooldc.org) For priority categories, the school’s My School DC profile indicates it offers Equitable Access designated seats; Equitable Access applies to OSSE-identified applicants (e.g., homelessness, foster care, TANF/SNAP, or over-age high school students) and requires consent in the application, and no other school-specific preferences were shown in the available profile text.
