Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

PS 198M emphasizes both personal and academic excellence by giving students opportunities that build collaboration, creativity, and self-reflection, while holding high expectations for academics and behavior. Instruction is standards-aligned and designed to value student diversity and individual needs, including inclusive Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classrooms where two teachers differentiate learning and use small-group instruction to support a wide range of learners.

Admissions

PS 198M is a zoned NYC public elementary school (District 2); families should first confirm whether they live in the PS 198 zone using NYC DOE school search tools. (ps198m.org) For Kindergarten (Fall 2026 eligibility: children born in 2021), NYC DOE’s timeline is: application opened December 9, 2025, closed January 23, 2026, and offers are scheduled for March 31, 2026; applications are submitted via MySchools, by phone (718-935-2009), or via a Family Welcome Center, and after an offer you register with documents like proof of age, immunization records (if available), and two proofs of address. (schools.nyc.gov) For zoned kindergarten programs, priority is (1) in-zone with a sibling at the school, then (2) other in-zone students; if space remains, offers may extend to out-of-zone applicants in an order that next considers sibling, district, and current pre-K-at-the-school priorities. (schools.nyc.gov) For Pre-K at PS 198, the school directs families to apply through NYC DOE (not directly through the school) via the Pre-K admissions process; for Fall 2026 Pre-K (born in 2022) the DOE dates are: application opens January 14, 2026, closes February 27, 2026, and offers release May 12, 2026. (ps198m.org) Pre-K priorities at district zoned schools start with current 3-K at the school, then children in the zone with a sibling, then other children in the zone (followed by district and out-of-district groups), and programs use MySchools waitlists to fill seats after offers—waitlist position is driven by admissions priorities plus when you joined the waitlist. (schools.nyc.gov) PS 198 also offers Gifted & Talented (K–5): families express interest for Kindergarten G&T through the kindergarten application, while Grades 1–4 G&T has a separate timeline (application April 21–May 8, 2026; offers June 11, 2026); PS 198 notes G&T waitlist offers are made in spring and the school must contact families in centrally generated waitlist order, and DOE notes G&T priorities include sibling priority (and sometimes district priority), not zoned priority.
