Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Urban School of San Francisco describes learning as an active, joyful process in which students are expected to be self-motivated participants who ask essential questions, solve problems creatively and rigorously, and build deep conceptual understanding. Its teaching emphasizes collaboration, reflection, comprehensive assessment, and respect for diverse perspectives, while extending learning beyond the classroom to develop independent thinkers with social responsibility.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Urban School of San Francisco says applicants should start by creating a Ravenna-Hub account and completing the Urban Intake Form, then optionally sign up for admissions events before submitting the parent/guardian application, student application, and separate Student Activity/Interest Form. (urbanschool.org) For the 2025-26 admissions cycle shown on its site, application and event registration opened August 28, 2025; the main application materials, transcripts, recommendations, and financial-aid application were due January 8, 2026; 2025 tax documents for aid applicants were due February 17, 2026; decisions were scheduled to post in Ravenna on March 20, 2026 after 4:00 p.m.; and enrollment contracts/deposits were due March 26, 2026 for financial-aid recipients and March 27, 2026 for all others. (urbanschool.org) Requirements listed on the website include a nonrefundable $100 application fee, parent/guardian and student forms, the Student Activity/Interest Form, recommendations from the current English teacher, current math teacher, and current principal or counselor, plus current-year and prior-year transcripts; Urban is also test-free and does not accept standardized test scores. (urbanschool.org) For financial assistance, families can apply through Clarity Tuition, and Urban states that applicants are considered for admission regardless of a family's request for aid. (urbanschool.org) On priority categories, Urban explicitly says siblings and children of alumni do not receive automatic admission and must go through the same competitive process as everyone else, and in the admissions pages reviewed I did not find a published waitlist policy or waitlist procedure.
