Teaching Approach

Updated 2mo ago

Trevor Day School describes its approach as inquiry-driven and idea-rich, combining an ambitious college-preparatory curriculum with diverse teaching methods, hands-on engagement, and close attention to both individual and group learning. Students are encouraged to construct knowledge through essential questions, real-world concepts, discussion, investigation, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving rather than simply memorizing facts or following predetermined paths.

Trevor Day School asks families to apply through Ravenna: Lower School applicants submit a completed application and $75 nonrefundable fee, then complete required appointments such as a tour, child visit, and adult meeting, while grades 6–12 applicants submit the Ravenna application and fee and self-register for a required campus tour/interview that includes the student and parent/guardian(s). For Fall 2027 entry, applications open in mid-to-late August 2026; the application deadline is December 1, 2026, tuition assistance is due January 1, 2027, and all application materials are due January 8, 2027, with Lower School decisions released by grade in February 2027 and Middle/Upper School decisions posted in Ravenna in early-to-mid February. Requirements include Lower School age cutoffs for Threes, Pre-K, and Kindergarten; Lower School school reports and, for grades 2–5, transcripts; and for grades 6–12, parent statement, student questionnaire, transcripts, math and English teacher recommendations, and SSAT or ISEE scores, with an additional essay required for grades 9–12. The site states that grades 1–5 are attrition-based entry points and that visits are scheduled if Trevor anticipates an opening, but it does not describe a waitlist policy. Priority categories found on the site are current Trevor families and alumni, who are eligible to apply for an Early Notification option, with notification in early December 2026.
