Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

Midtown International School describes its teaching philosophy as a gifted-focused, strengths-based approach that creates a safe space for academic risk-taking, recognizes that giftedness appears in many forms, and emphasizes depth and complexity over traditional grading and test scores. The school says learning is student-centered and problem-based, with teachers acting as facilitators while students use inquiry, collaboration, and real-world problem solving, alongside social-emotional support that addresses the whole child. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

Midtown International School’s public admissions process starts with an optional tour and then an online application; for rolling admissions, the school reviews completed files and invites qualifying students to a student interview and assessments, with electronic decisions sent within one week after all required materials, the interview, and gifted-eligibility documentation are in. (misatl.org) A completed application includes an online student questionnaire, a student portfolio (for grades 6-12, a writing sample), a teacher recommendation, student records/transcripts and other evaluations or test scores for grades 1-12, evidence of gifted-program eligibility or WISC-IV/other cognitive test results from the last 12 months, and a non-refundable $100 application fee; MIS also says applicants must show strength in at least three dimensions of giftedness. (misatl.org) The admissions page lists these key dates for the published cycle: February 2 for early decision and Round 1 applications, February 7 for early decision/Round 1 interviews and cognitive assessments, February 28 for early decision notifications, March 2 for the financial-aid deadline, March 7 for Round 2 applications, March 19-20 for Round 2 interviews and cognitive assessments, and April 4 for Round 1 and 2 decisions. (misatl.org) MIS says it maintains a waitlist for each school year, uses rolling admissions for new openings, contacts waitlisted students as space becomes available, and during rolling admissions accepted families must enroll or decline within one week of the offer. (misatl.org) On priority categories, the only explicit public priority I found is that Round 1 applicants are given priority over Round 2 applicants; I did not find any public sibling, legacy, or faculty-priority categories on the admissions pages reviewed.
