Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Crystal Springs Uplands School describes its approach as “transformative teaching and meaningful connections,” aimed at empowering kind, curious learners to thrive together. The school emphasizes academic excellence, critical thinking, growth through new challenges, and a balanced education that develops students intellectually, personally, and socially. It also highlights kindness, inclusion, and experiential learning that connects classroom study with real-world and global experiences.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Crystal’s admissions process begins in Ravenna, where families create an account, find the school, explore events, and submit the preliminary application; the school also encourages applicants to attend Why Crystal and Connect with Crystal events before completing the file. (crystal.org) Middle School applicants must submit a student statement and activity form, teacher recommendations (fourth- and fifth-grade teachers or current math and English teachers, plus a principal/counselor recommendation), transcripts, a timed Kira student statement, an in-person group interview, a parent/guardian Kira video share, and any optional supplements; Upper School uses a similar list but specifies current math and English teacher recommendations and a virtual group discussion interview. (crystal.org) The site lists key dates as a January 8 application deadline, March 20 notification date, and March 27 decision date, and it says late applications may be considered only if space is available and at the Director of Enrollment Management and Affordability’s discretion. (crystal.org) On priority categories, Crystal says siblings, children of alumni, and children of employees may have ties to the school but those connections do not guarantee admission; applicants still must show they can thrive socially and academically at Crystal. (crystal.org) I did not find a published waitlist policy on the admissions pages reviewed, so the website does not clearly explain how waitlisted applicants are handled; families are directed to contact admission@crystal.org with questions.
