Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

CESJDS describes a whole-child, rigorous academic approach that integrates general and Judaic studies so that each strengthens and challenges the other, within a dynamic and inclusive community. The school emphasizes intellectual debate, integrity, and a joyful, pluralistic Judaism rooted in Jewish values and texts, using a culture of questioning and multiple perspectives to build students’ independent, creative, and critical thinking. It also highlights empowering students’ voice and communication, alongside research-based teaching practices and ongoing faculty professional development.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

Applications are submitted through CESJDS’s online Admission and Enrollment portal; families typically start by submitting an inquiry, scheduling a tour, and then completing the online application and grade-specific checklist items (recommendations, transcripts/report cards, student photo, permission forms, interviews, and student visit/assessments). (cesjds.org) For the 2026–2027 cycle, the school lists: applications open September 12, 2025; sibling applications due November 14, 2025; applications due January 9, 2026; supplemental materials/transcripts due January 23, 2026; tuition assistance opens October 19 and is due January 11, 2026; and key decision dates include Acceptance Day February 27, 2026 and Admission Decision Day March 13, 2026. (cesjds.org) Gurim (JK) applicants must be age 4 by the first day of school (and toileting independently), and the school notes students do not need to know Hebrew to enroll. (cesjds.org) Upper School (grades 6–11) applicants are asked to complete teacher recommendations and a transcript request, plus a visit that includes a student interview and math/writing screenings. (cesjds.org) After the main deadline, CESJDS says it is accepting applications on a rolling basis and will notify applicants after March 14 pending space availability; the website does not describe a formal waitlist policy, and the only explicit priority category it calls out is siblings (with separate deadlines/screening dates versus new families).
