Odyssey School of Denver emphasizes collaborative, exploratory learning where students engage with peers to build knowledge and lifelong problem-solving skills, connect lessons to the world beyond the classroom, and demonstrate learning through public presentations and portfolios. As an EL (Expeditionary Learning) model school, it uses project-based “learning expeditions” for in-depth study across disciplines while cultivating core “Habits of a Learner” so students become active stewards of their own learning. Odyssey School of Denver (grades K–8) enrolls through Denver Public Schools (DPS) SchoolChoice: families submit the online SchoolChoice form (you may rank up to 12 schools), and students are matched based on lottery number plus the order of schools ranked, with waitlists for any higher-ranked schools. (odysseydenver.org) For the 2026–27 school year, DPS reports Round 1 ran from 10 a.m. Dec. 2, 2025 through 4 p.m. Jan. 20, 2026, with placement and waitlist notifications in late February 2026; Round 2 opens at 10 a.m. on March 10, 2026. (schoolchoice.dpsk12.org) If you apply in Round 2, forms are processed first-come/first-served (no lottery); if a grade is full, the student is added to the end of the waitlist, and families are advised not to submit a Round 2 form to the same school if already waitlisted from Round 1. (odysseydenver.org) Odyssey notes that waitlists are “live and changing,” and openings are filled from the waitlist as soon as possible; if a seat becomes available, the school will contact the family. (odysseydenver.org) Priority and preference categories described by Odyssey and DPS materials include: sibling priority (and household priority with custody/legal documentation), alumni-related priority, staff and board priorities (with caps noted), plus Central Park and low-income-related preferences (Odyssey states a minimum 33% free/reduced-lunch enrollment and 33% of open seats prioritized to Central Park residents; DPS SchoolChoice priorities also include Central Park enrollment-zone and high free/reduced-lunch concentration areas, among others).
