Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

The Walker School describes its approach as “transformative learning” built through meaningful relationships, academic excellence, and unique opportunities, with students being known and supported as individuals. Across divisions, the school emphasizes small classes, multisensory and hands-on instruction, critical thinking, experiential learning, and character development grounded in values such as curiosity, dignity, honor, and kindness. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

The Walker School asks families to begin by submitting an inquiry and creating a Ravenna account, where they can register for events and apply for admission. (thewalkerschool.org) Applicants then complete the online application with an $85 non-refundable fee and have records sent directly from the current school: Primary/Lower School applicants need a current teacher evaluation (waived if the child has not attended school or is homeschooled) and Lower School transcripts, while Middle/Upper School applicants need English, math, and principal/guidance counselor evaluations plus transcripts that include standardized testing, or SSAT results sent directly to Walker if testing is unavailable. (thewalkerschool.org) Primary and Lower School applicants must complete a required observation/assessment visit, while Middle and Upper School applicants must complete an in-person or virtual interview; optional shadow visits are also offered for grades 2-12. (thewalkerschool.org) The published 2025-26 cycle dates are October 1, 2025 for applications to open, February 6, 2026 for the application deadline, February 27, 2026 for supporting documents, and April 4, 2026 for enrollment decisions, with Early Learner, PreK, and New Avenues decisions communicated on a rolling basis; late applications may be accepted if space is available. (thewalkerschool.org) On the public admissions pages I reviewed, Walker does not publicly spell out a formal waitlist process or any admissions priority categories, so I did not find posted details for those items.
