Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

The GreenMount School describes its teaching philosophy as creative, multicultural, community-based, and centered on experiential learning through thematic, real-world curricula. Students are given space and encouragement to learn while building academic, behavioral, and personal skills through multidisciplinary projects, teamwork, reflection, and community experiences. The school also emphasizes a small, welcoming environment and strong parent involvement as key supports for student growth.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

GreenMount’s admissions process begins with a visit: families are asked to RSVP for a Glimpse of GreenMount, open house, or private tour, then submit the online application and fee. (greenmountschool.org) For the 2026-2027 school year, the website says applications open in October 2025, completed applications are due by December 17, 2025 for first-round decisions, applications after that date move to a second round, teacher referral forms are due by January 16, and the financial-aid deadline is January 9, 2026. (greenmountschool.org) Required materials and steps include Common Referral Form(s) sent directly from the current school or daycare, a transcript release form, a child shadow day, and a parent interview; grades 1-5 complete assessments during the shadow day, while grades 6-8 must also submit ISEE or other recent standardized test results and write an essay. (greenmountschool.org) The school says it seeks highly engaged, self-directed learners and families committed to cooperative community participation, and notes that some learning differences can be addressed but it does not offer a special education program. (greenmountschool.org) The website does not describe a separate waitlist policy or named priority categories such as siblings or alumni; the only explicit priority stated is that applications received by the deadline get priority consideration, and admissions continues until full enrollment is reached.
