Teaching Approach

Updated 6mo ago

City & Country School describes its philosophy as progressive education grounded in the idea that learning is fundamentally social: teachers work alongside children, supporting their innate curiosity through questioning, problem-solving, and decision-making rather than rote instruction. Social studies is presented as the core of the curriculum, with science, math, literature, and the arts integrated into meaningful, in-depth investigations and hands-on experiences that build both academic skills and responsibility within a democratic community. Admissions

Updated 6mo ago

City & Country says the admissions process starts with a required campus tour and then continues in Ravenna, where families submit the application; applicants for Kindergarten and above may also apply for tuition assistance through Clarity, and families then schedule an interview plus a child visit. (cityandcountry.org) As of April 6, 2026, the site says admissions for 2026-27 are complete, families may email about any remaining openings, spring 2026 tours that fulfill the fall application tour requirement are listed for April 23, May 12, May 19, May 21, and May 26, and applications for 2027-28 open on August 1, 2026. (cityandcountry.org) Posted requirements include a September 1 age cutoff, no standardized testing for any age, and vaccination before admission; the site also highlights optional admissions events such as the Open House, Block Workshops, and Meet the Grads. (cityandcountry.org) For waitlists, the website explicitly says that once campus tours are full, families should email admissions@cityandcountry.org to be placed on a waiting list, but on the pages reviewed it does not clearly publish a separate student-admissions waitlist policy beyond asking families to inquire about any remaining openings. (cityandcountry.org) The only priority categories explicitly identified are sibling and legacy applicants, who receive priority and are eligible for ISAAGNY early notification, although the school says that priority does not guarantee admission.
