H.D. Woodson frames its work around preparing scholars to be competitive in post-secondary pathways while learning in an environment where they feel loved, challenged, and prepared. The school emphasizes access and opportunity so students can become “change agents and architects” of the world they live in, supported by a STEM- and career-academy model (e.g., Engineering, IT, Finance) with advanced coursework options.

H.D. Woodson directs in-boundary, current, and feeder students to enroll by (1) completing the DCPS Enrollment Packet, (2) providing Proof of DC Residency, and (3) bringing both to the school’s main office; families can confirm in-boundary status using DC’s Enrollment Boundary Information System. (dcpshdwhs.ss14.sharpschool.com) If Woodson is not your in-boundary/current/feeder school, you apply via the My School DC common lottery (you can rank up to 12 schools); for the 2026–27 cycle, the Grades 9–12 deadline was February 2, 2026, rankings can be adjusted until March 13, 2026 at 5 p.m. (optional), and lottery results/waitlist positions are available March 27, 2026. (myschooldc.org) Enrollment requires DC residency documentation at the time you enroll and DC health/immunization forms are required by the first day of school. (enrolldcps.dc.gov) Waitlists are used when a school has more applicants than seats; enrolling at a matched school does not remove a student from other waitlists, and waitlists are ordered by preference group (e.g., in-boundary/sibling) and then random lottery number, with after-deadline applicants placed below on-time applicants within the appropriate preference group and ordered by submission date. (myschooldc.org) Woodson’s listed lottery priority categories (preferences) are “Sibling Attending” and “Sibling Offered.” (myschooldc.org)
