Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

PS 229’s own website mainly posts middle school admissions support for current 5th-grade families (via an external middle school admissions site and a counselor contact); for enrolling in P.S. 229 itself, NYC DOE directs families to use the school’s listing on MySchools and follow DOE grade-by-grade enrollment steps. (ps229q.org) For 3-K and Pre-K at NYC public schools (including programs at P.S. 229 if offered), families apply through MySchools (or by phone/Family Welcome Center); for Fall 2026, applications opened January 14, 2026 and close February 27, 2026, with offer releases on May 19, 2026 (3-K) and May 12, 2026 (Pre-K), and priority categories generally include (depending on setting) current student, sibling, zoned, and district priorities. (schools.nyc.gov) For kindergarten entry for Fall 2026, the application ran December 9, 2025 through January 23, 2026, with offers released March 31, 2026; if you missed the deadline, DOE says you can still participate by joining waitlists in MySchools, and for zoned schools the stated priority order starts with students living in-zone (with sibling first), then (if space allows) siblings/district and current pre-K at the school, then other district and out-of-district applicants. (schools.nyc.gov) After offers, waitlists are used to fill open seats: children are automatically waitlisted for any higher-ranked choices on their application, families can also add additional waitlists, and programs/schools contact families directly if a seat becomes available. (schools.nyc.gov) When registering (including for students enrolling outside the main application process), families should be prepared to provide proof of age, immunization records (if available), and two proofs of address (plus other records if available), though students in temporary housing can enroll without documentation initially; DOE also notes that most K–8 students enroll at their zoned school by contacting the school directly, or use a Family Welcome Center if they do not have a zoned school/need help.
