Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Easley Elementary describes its approach as inclusive, relationship-centered, and responsive to each child’s needs. The school says it uses intentional instruction to meet students where they are, nurture individual talents and skills, emphasize effort over outcomes, and value diversity within a community where students feel seen, heard, and resilient in the face of challenges.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Easley Elementary is a Durham Public Schools (DPS) year-round elementary school; students who live in Easley’s attendance zone are automatically enrolled and do not need to enter a lottery. Families who are eligible to apply outside the attendance zone must apply through DPS’s annual application/lottery process for year-round schools; Easley’s school page notes the next application period begins in January 2026 for the 2026–2027 school year. DPS states year-round schools do not have academic (or other) application criteria, but applicants must be Durham County residents within the designated geographic zone(s) and should be prepared to provide proof of residency and a custodial parent/guardian photo ID as part of the process. If you miss the main lottery window, DPS offers a “late application” process (seats filled in the order requests are received); the late-application window closes June 30 for year-round programs, and applicants may be placed on a waitlist if no seats are available. Priority categories called out for Easley include automatic enrollment for those in the attendance zone and sibling priority for lottery applicants, with DPS also describing sibling- and zone-based priorities as part of its broader magnet/year-round lottery rules.
