DCIS at Fairmont emphasizes educating the “whole child” through a dual-language (English/Spanish) program and an international studies lens, using authentic, community-based learning experiences that build student agency, dialogue, and cooperative learning. Their approach combines rigorous, data-driven, standards-based instruction (including a Science of Reading-aligned literacy focus and conceptually rich math) with social-emotional learning, mindfulness/restorative practices, and a commitment to honoring multiple perspectives and uniting across differences.

Denver Center for International Studies at Fairmont (DCIS at Fairmont) is a Denver Public Schools (DPS) school and families apply through DPS SchoolChoice (online at schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/apply): create an account or log in with your Parent Portal credentials, rank up to 12 schools, and submit the application by the district deadline. (schoolchoice.dpsk12.org) For the 2026–27 school year, DPS reported Round 1 ran from Dec. 2, 2025 (10 a.m.) through Jan. 20, 2026 (4 p.m.), with placement results and any waitlist positions provided in late February 2026; Round 2 opens March 10, 2026 at 10 a.m. and is processed first-come/first-served within priority groups (not a lottery). (schoolchoice.dpsk12.org) If the school is full, students can be waitlisted; DPS explains that in Round 2 students may be placed on a waitlist while the school processes the request, and if a seat becomes available families are given a limited time window (e.g., 72 hours) to accept, and accepting a Round 2 seat can replace a prior Round 1 assignment. (academics.dpsk12.org) School-specific notes previously posted by DCIS at Fairmont state it is a neighborhood school (enrollment guaranteed only for families living within the boundary), and its Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program reserves about 50% of DLI seats for students who are Spanish-fluent/bilingual, using separate Spanish-qualified vs not-Spanish-qualified waitlists; families indicate Spanish qualification on the SchoolChoice application and the school may require a home-language questionnaire and/or language assessment, and it generally does not add students to DLI after 1st grade without prior Spanish skills. (dcisfairmont.dpsk12.org) Priority considerations mentioned include boundary/neighborhood status, sibling accommodation efforts, and (for DLI) Spanish-qualification status; additionally, DPS notes ECE-4 applicants must also submit Colorado Universal Preschool (UPK) alongside SchoolChoice (UPK opened Dec. 9 at noon for the 2026–27 cycle).
