DC International School (DCI) centers its teaching on an IB-for-all model that emphasizes inquiry-based learning aligned to the International Baccalaureate’s principles and curriculum, aiming to develop globally minded, knowledgeable, and caring students. Its approach also stresses student agency (student-driven, personalized learning) and advanced multilingual proficiency (Spanish, French, or Chinese), with a stated commitment to social justice and sustainability.

DC International School (DCI) admits new students only in grades 6–9 and only through the My School DC common lottery (families cannot apply directly to DCI), and the school is open to DC residents. (dcinternationalschool.org) For SY 2026–27, the lottery application opens December 15, 2025, with deadlines of February 2, 2026 (grade 9) and March 2, 2026 (grades 6–8), and results are released online on March 27, 2026; matched families must complete enrollment by the common deadline (May 1). (dcinternationalschool.org) Applicants must select a language track (Chinese, French, and/or Spanish), and DCI states there are no prerequisites such as prior IB experience, GPA, or minimum language proficiency. (dcinternationalschool.org) If DCI has more applicants than available seats, My School DC creates a waitlist and schools extend offers as seats open; waitlists are ordered by preference groups and then random lottery number, and families can track positions through their My School DC account. (myschooldc.org) DCI-specific priorities include preference for current 5th graders at DCI member elementary schools applying to 6th grade in their current language track, plus sibling preference (same language track), children-of-staff preference, and founders preference.
