Washington Latin’s Upper School emphasizes a contemporary classical liberal-arts education that treats education as training of character—integrating intellectual development with moral integrity—and prepares students for citizenship and leadership. Instruction centers on rigorous reading and writing across subjects, frequent discussion and civil debate (including Socratic seminars), and engaging enduring moral and philosophical questions through both classical and modern texts. The program blends traditional practices like repetition and Socratic dialogue with modern supports such as cooperative learning and technology.

Washington Latin PCS Upper School (grades 9–12 at the 2nd Street Campus; grades 9–10 at the Cooper Campus as it expands) admits new students through the citywide MySchoolDC common lottery—families apply in MySchoolDC and select the correct Washington Latin campus/school listing. (latinpcs.org) Eligibility is open to any DC resident; the school states there are no admissions requirements beyond DC residency and they do not consider test scores or prior grades. (latinpcs.org) Key dates are set by MySchoolDC each year; Washington Latin publishes approximate/typical timing (applications open mid-December; high school deadline around early February; results around April 1; matched-student enrollment deadline around May 1), and for the 2026–27 cycle it listed Monday, February 2, 2026 as the grades 9–12 deadline. (latinpcs.org) If you are not matched, you may remain on (or later receive) a waitlist offer through the MySchoolDC process; the school notes that even with preferences, a match or waitlist offer is not guaranteed. (latinpcs.org) Priority categories/preferences are applied per campus and include (1) siblings of currently attending students, (2) children of current full-time DC-resident employees, and (3) siblings of newly admitted/matched students; Washington Latin also participates in MySchoolDC’s Equitable Access program to set aside seats for qualifying at-risk students, with other preferences still applied within that program.
