Farmington Woods Elementary is a WCPSS magnet elementary, so families either enroll if it is their assigned base school or submit a WCPSS Choice (magnet) application to request it. To apply for the magnet option, the student must first be enrolled in WCPSS and have an active student ID; WCPSS recommends starting enrollment at least a week before applying because the ID can take 24–48 hours to activate in the application portal. Key dates for the 2026–27 cycle shown by WCPSS include: Oct. 15, 2025 (kindergarten/pre-registration opens), Oct. 15, 2025–Jan. 22, 2026 (magnet application window), Feb. 19, 2026 (results), and March 2–13, 2026 (round 2 for select magnet schools); new-to-Wake families can also request a magnet change within 10 days of enrolling (approval not guaranteed). Students not offered a seat are placed on a non-numeric waitlist (“applicant pool”), which is reviewed in spring to fill any vacancies. For elementary magnet selection priorities (which apply to Farmington Woods), WCPSS lists guaranteed priority for rising kindergarten siblings of current magnet students at the same school, then priority tiers based on the socioeconomic status combination of the student’s next assigned school and home area, with remaining seats filled by a lottery (the remaining 10%).
