Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

Gilman School describes its teaching approach as a holistic, boy-centered education in which each student is "known, loved, and challenged." The school emphasizes rigorous academics, hands-on and active learning, character formation through its "Gilman Five" values, and supportive relationships that help boys become critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.

Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Gilman’s admissions process starts in its Admissions Portal, where families create an account, complete the online application, and pay a non-refundable $50 fee; the school says applications for the 2026-2027 school year are open now. (gilman.edu) Lower School applicants (Pre-K-4) must meet age/birthday cutoffs and submit school forms/records, then complete an optional parent meeting and an on-campus assessment, while Middle and Upper School applicants schedule a parent-student visit or shadow day, complete admissions testing (ISEE/SSAT or other listed options, or Gilman’s in-house assessment), and submit three years of report cards plus English and math teacher recommendations. (gilman.edu) The main published dates are Monday, December 15, 2025 for the application and tuition-assistance deadline, Monday, January 19, 2026 for Middle/Upper testing and records, Thursday, February 19, 2026 for decisions, and Friday, March 6, 2026 for enrollment contracts; Lower School also notes assessments beginning in mid-November, a grades 2-4 test date of January 10, 2026, and an accepted parents reception on February 24, 2026. (gilman.edu) On requirements, Gilman also states that all enrolled students must have age-appropriate state-mandated vaccinations, with only medical exemptions considered, and that tuition assistance requires a separate Clarity application. (gilman.edu) I did not find a published waitlist procedure on the admissions pages reviewed, and I did not find explicit admissions-priority categories; the only categories specifically mentioned are application-fee waiver groups—siblings of currently enrolled students and sons of alumni in Lower School, plus sons of Gilman faculty/staff members for Middle and Upper School.
