Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

Seawell Elementary admissions are handled through Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS): students are assigned to Seawell based on the zoned home address, and families start by completing the district’s registration (online, with in-person help available at Lincoln Center). Only a parent or legal guardian may register; legal guardians must show court-ordered custody/guardianship, and families must provide one acceptable proof of domicile (e.g., current lease/rental agreement, Orange County property tax bill, settlement statement, or an unseparated Duke Energy/OWASA/Public Service Gas/Piedmont Electric bill). State health rules apply: required immunizations and (if entering NC public schools for the first time) an NC Health Assessment must be provided within 30 calendar days after entry or the student may be excluded until documents are received. Key dates noted by CHCCS include: general new-student registration for 2026–2027 opens in spring 2026, and the 2026–2027 in-district transfer request window runs February 15, 2026 through April 15, 2026 (some schools may be closed to transfers due to capacity and bus service is not provided for transfer students). Waitlists/priority categories mostly apply to magnet programs rather than standard zoned enrollment at Seawell: CHCCS notes the 2026–2027 kindergarten magnet lottery is closed and students without space may be added to a waitlist; magnet lottery preferences can include sibling preference and (for Spanish dual language) Pre-K preference, and out-of-district admission may be granted for children of permanent part-time/full-time CHCCS employees.

Sunrise Community Farm Center offers an after-school program with school pickup for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) students and follows the CHCCS school calendar. The program runs in a farm setting where children can decompress and choose activities (e.g., garden work, playing in the woods, crafts, working with animals). The farm vans pick up students at their school and families pick up at the farm (pickup any time before 6). Seawell Elementary is listed as a 2025/2026 participating school.
