Admissions

PS/MS 138’s website directs prospective families to apply for Pre-K through NYC Public Schools’ centralized “Pre-K for All” process (not directly to the school). (ps138kbrooklyn.org) NYCPS applications are generally submitted via MySchools (or by phone at 718-935-2009 or in person at a Family Welcome Center), with key Fall 2026 dates: Kindergarten application Dec 9, 2025–Jan 23, 2026 (offers Mar 31, 2026) and 3-K/Pre-K application Jan 14–Feb 27, 2026 (Pre-K offers May 12, 2026; 3-K offers May 19, 2026). (schools.nyc.gov) Eligibility is primarily age-based (for Fall 2026: Kindergarten for children born in 2021; Pre-K for 2022; 3-K for 2023) and, upon accepting an offer or enrolling, families are typically asked for proof of age, immunization records, and proof of address (among other documents). (schools.nyc.gov) If you miss deadlines or don’t receive an offer, you can join waitlists in MySchools; placement is based on the program’s admissions priorities plus a waitlist random number or the time you joined, and offers are made in waitlist order if seats open. (schools.nyc.gov) Priority categories vary by program, but for zoned kindergarten programs NYCPS prioritizes (1) in-zone students with siblings at the school, then (2) other in-zone students, followed—if space remains—by district/out-of-district applicants with siblings, pre-K students, and then other district/out-of-district students; families can confirm zoning and enroll directly with their zoned school or via a Family Welcome Center.
