Teaching Approach

Updated 8mo ago

McLean School’s teaching philosophy is an abilities-driven approach that focuses on understanding students for what they can do and supporting (without defining them by) challenges such as dyslexia, anxiety, ADHD, organizational, or math difficulties. They teach “the way students learn” through smaller classes and embedded in-classroom support (rather than pulling students out for a separate learning specialist), while keeping academic content rigorous but adapting the instructional process so students can succeed and shine.

Admissions

Updated 8mo ago

McLean School uses a password-protected online application portal (MySchoolApp): families create an account, complete and submit the application, and then upload required supporting documents via the portal checklist. (mcleanschool.org) After the application and documents are submitted, families self-schedule a one-hour parent interview and a student visit through their account. (mcleanschool.org) The school states that applications are reviewed individually to ensure McLean can meet a student’s needs, and notes it is most successful with bright students whose primary challenge is not behavioral, social, or emotional. (mcleanschool.org) Key dates shown are January 21 (application deadline), February 27 (decisions posted), and March 13 (enrollment response deadline); the page does not show the year, so confirm the applicable cycle in the portal or with Admissions. (mcleanschool.org) McLean’s public admissions pages reviewed do not describe a formal waitlist process or any explicit priority/first-consideration categories, so families should contact the Admission Office for those details.
