Teaching Approach

Updated 7mo ago

The Nueva School describes its teaching philosophy as an interdisciplinary, student-centered approach for gifted learners that is rooted in progressive, constructivist, inquiry-based, and project-based learning. It emphasizes learning by doing and learning by caring, combining academic challenge with design thinking, social-emotional learning, and student agency so students can pursue meaningful questions, develop the whole child, and make choices that benefit the world. Admissions

Updated 7mo ago

The Nueva School asks families to start in Ravenna, where applications for the 2026–27 year opened in early September 2025; the main deadline for the application and all required materials is January 8, 2026, financial-aid materials are due February 3, 2026, decisions are released March 20, 2026, admitted-family visits are March 24–25, and enrollment replies are due March 27, 2026. (nuevaschool.org) For preK–8, the process generally includes a Family Information Form, a nonrefundable $100 fee, a Wechsler IQ assessment that must fall within Nueva’s target range, parent/guardian materials, and school-submitted evaluations/transcripts; kindergarten and middle school also use Activity Sessions, while Upper School applicants (primarily grades 9–10) submit parent questionnaires/video, a timed writing sample, a student questionnaire/creative project, recommendations, and transcripts, and Nueva says it does not require or accept ISEE/SSAT scores and does not require IQ testing for Upper School. (nuevaschool.org) A key early date is November 3, 2025: kindergarten, middle school, and upper school applicants who complete the listed prerequisites by then are guaranteed an in-person Activity Session, while later applicants are scheduled as space allows; grades 1–4 may receive an Activity Session only if Nueva decides it would be helpful. (nuevaschool.org) Nueva uses a non-ranked waitpool rather than a ranked waitlist; waitpool students may be offered spots if openings arise before school starts, and pre-kindergarten waitpool applicants from Round I are reconsidered in Round II, with Round II decisions released April 1, 2026; Nueva also says it does not accept late applications or mid-year transfers. (nuevaschool.org) On priority categories, Nueva explicitly says sibling and legacy applicants are not automatically admitted or guaranteed priority, and all applicants are evaluated using the same criteria.
